—Noam to Dara

Noam Isaac Mendel Álvaro is a protagonist of the books The Fever King and The Electric Heir. He was born in Carolinia on July 30th 2106, to undocumented Atlantian parents. He worked at a soup kitchen and computer repair shop, the latter where he helped hack government servers for information on the current Atlantian refugee situation. After a magical outbreak in his neighborhood, he is sent to the red ward. When he wakes up, he finds out he is the only one who survived.

Presenting Power[]

Technopathy: The psychic ability to control electronic machinery and/or read electronic signals, especially hardware. In this instance, Noam does both.

Appearance[]

Noam is described as long limbed and narrow waisted, with short brown hair and eyes the perfect shade of tree bark brown. His voice also has a discernible Southern accent to it.

He'd dress in cheap clothes from the thrift store, he’d even worn clothes from the dumpster once— the ugliest hat, as Dara had described, from the trash on a random street corner.

Personality[]

Noam is a person with a strong sense of justice, his train of thoughts too good at times, too righteous to the point of naivety. He will follow through with what he thinks is right no matter what. That’s the best thing about him, but also the worst. Once he has an idea in his head, he’ll pursue it to no ends. A hero complex some would call it. This can lead him to be reckless at times, charging headfirst into new plans.

His passion of things overflows, he can talk your poor ears off at just about anything as long as he's passionate. His mind is always swarming with ideas.

He has always been a hard worker and caring, filling the hole that his mother’s suicide left in their family the best he could. He took on two jobs and took care of his father till the end, while still protesting for his Atlantian people. His want for justice towards his people, along with the suffering he witnessed first hand is what shaped him into who he is.

History[]

Born in Carolina, but the son of illegal immigrants from Atlantia, his father Hispanic and his mother Jewish, Noam has been fighting  for the rights of Atlantians with his father since young. They lived in a poverty stricken neighborhood, in the old Migrant Shelter, the “Atlantian” part of town. Yet he lived happily with both his parents, celebrating Shabbat and spending time together, they seemed happy anyways.

All went down hill when Noam’s mother hung herself, and his father became severely depressed afterwards, more like a corpse than alive. Noam dropped out of 8th grade, taking on jobs at the soup kitchen and computer repair shop to support his father.

All the while, Noam still worked with Tom Brennan, a family friend at the computer repair shop to hack into governmental servers to snag information for riots and such. He used his interest and understanding of technology to stand against anti-Atlantians proudly.

That is until the virus swept his neighborhood, bringing with it death and despair. He awoke in the red ward, the only survivor left. But he'd gained powers, Technopathy, the virus cohabiting with his body. He became a pupil under Calix Lehrer in the witching academy, vowing to use his newfound powers for the better of the Atlantians.
